A Rockhampton Art Gallery exhibition.
Maaret Sinkko's "The twilight of thought and sensation" is inspired by the tragically heroic story of Australian tonalist painter Clarice Beckett. Unmarried and encumbered by parents in poor health, Beckett sought inspiration in her local landscape and surrounds in the twilight hours afforded to her.
Sinkko, less tragically encumbered by daytime employment, has sought to embark on somewhat of an artistic pilgrimage to replicate working rapidly in the twilight hours of the day. Working en plein air in short bursts in her local surrounds Sinkko hopes to capture places spiritually akin to Beckett, albeit in her own distinctive style.
"The twilight of thought and sensation" is the second exhibition to be displayed in the Merilyn Luck Gallery for Central Queensland artists.
This new body of oil paintings by active local artist Maaret Sinkko presents a somewhat spiritual and highly personal insight into our local landscape - caught at the romantic hours of the day....
